Strong Mental Health
No matter how old you are, what you look like, where you live, who your friends are, how much you earn, what condition you may be suffering from – we all deserve strong mental health.
There are now many individuals that experience ongoing daily battles with their emotions, mental health and physical well-being. It should be no surprise that increasing numbers are experiencing higher levels than ever of stress, anxiety and depression. This is largely due to the huge levels of pressure put on us by social media, the rise in technology, high expectations, the need for instant gratification, consumerism, drug culture and comparison to others, to name but a few.
But did you know that stress and anxiety are now two of the most common conditions that GP’s, counsellors and psychotherapists such as myself deal with on a daily basis? A little stress can sometimes be a good thing, it can help with productivity, creativity and motivation. But too much stress can have very negative effects and far reaching consequences on a persons life and health.
If left unchecked, stress can result in serious mental and physical health problems. Muscle pain, weakened immunity, insomnia, anxiety, depression and obesity are just some of the conditions that if left untreated can become chronic, developing into more serious conditions such as high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). A dependence on alcohol, drugs or food for a way to self medicate is also on the rise. Again when left unchecked, this can also lead to more serious illness and diseases, cancer being amongst them.
Many therapists offer simple and easy to use techniques for the relief of stress and anxiety, and these can be easily found on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. So, if you are using social media, as most of us are, what better way than to utilise the help that is on offer.
Alternatively, if you are suffering from stress, anxiety or maybe you have a reliance on alcohol, food or drugs for comfort, and find it has gone beyond the reach of simple self help techniques, then getting the right help is crucial in learning to manage and overcome your difficulties.
There are many amazing therapies out there and choosing the right one is far easier than you might think. Take a look at the various therapies on offer and decide which one ‘feels’ right for you. Trust your judgement and take that first step.
